Dear Internet,

I’ve just installed WordPress to help encourage me keep this site updated more frequently. I’m still messing about moving the old site design into a WordPress template, but it should be polished and ready for action soon.

I plan to use the site as a playground and forum for FX R&D, and an idea I’ve had for some time now to maintain an “animation sketchbook”.

I recently came up with the idea to write a custom locator scripted plugin for Maya, based on the null shapes that are available in Softimage. I’ve always liked the built-in shape and colour choices in Softimage, and I especially like the idea of shadow icons.

I decided this would be a great foundation to build upon when designing a custom locator nodes of my own design. The new draw styles for joints in Maya, and the joint labelling features could be interesting features to implement.
